Philadelphia, PA — September 8, 2020 — Despite the continuation of the global pandemic that has curtailed so many aspects of the business world and the ability for employees to gather, Almo Corporation (#AlmoGivesBack), has found new ways to engage and give back with multiple philanthropic outreach efforts that took place both virtually and in small groups.
This summer, Almo employees participated in Almo-led, in-person and virtual events to support organizations benefitting Philly PAL, the Anti-Defamation League, the Innocence Project and the NAACP. Almo also donated a full kitchen of appliances to The Block Gives Back (TBGB) a non-profit organization working to revitalize Philadelphia “block by block” and provide meals for those in need.
“Participation in our philanthropies was at an all-time high this summer,” explained Warren Chaiken, president and CEO for Almo Corporation. “Employees were looking for a purposeful way to spend time, both with their colleagues and their families. We believe that giving back is an honor and a privilege and I know that our teamwork, and collective moral and social conscience will continue to seek productive change.”
Chaiken added that Almo Corporation is fueled by its longstanding FIIT shared values centered around family, integrity, innovation and teamwork. Almo’s priority is and always has been caring for employees, their families and their communities.
Philly PAL Backpack Event
The Police Athletic League (PAL) of Philadelphia aspires to be the premier youth-serving organization in the city by reducing crime and promoting character development. Almo’s Dealer Channel Division employees came together in a safe, socially-distant group to provide necessary school supplies and assemble them into 75 backpacks. Regardless of where students have school this fall, the supplies are expected to provide relief to local families and give kids the tools they need for academic success.
Virtual 5K and Virtual Splash for Cash
This summer, calls for justice and social inclusion were heightened by civil unrest throughout the nation. Almo recognized the call to action with two virtual fundraising events. As part of a Virtual 5K, employees were asked to ‘raise their voices and speak with their feet” by walking or running. At the same time, Almo’s annual Splash for Cash philanthropy became a virtual event that allowed employees the opportunity to knock some of their colleagues into a dunk tank. In total, with support of Almo vendors, $37,000 was raised and equally split between the Anti-Defamation League, the Innocence Project and the NAACP in the hope of working to combat social injustices in public education, health care, child welfare and immigration.
The Block Gives Back
On Saturdays, TBGB prepares and distributes fresh grab-n-go meals for those in need in the downtown Philadelphia area. This organization also aims to inform those volunteering about the seriousness of homelessness and the small gestures they can take to help with the issue. TBGB kitchen was in great need of new appliances to make and store the food. Almo delivered by donating a refrigerator, range, dishwasher and microwave, which expanded cooking capabilities and provided more space to store food prior to distribution.
