Philadelphia, PA — March 14, 2019 — Almo Corporation, the nation’s leading independent distributor of appliances, consumer electronics, Pro A/V equipment and housewares, today announced it has been named one of the 2019 Top Workplaces by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Greater Philadelphia Region’s most prevalent news source. This award marks the sixth time that Almo Corporation has been listed as a leader in the mid-size business category on the Top Workplace list.
Almo Corporation will be formally recognized at a dinner awards program on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at the Crystal Tea Room where company rankings will be revealed. Almo will also be acknowledged in the Top Workplaces Awards special print section of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Sunday, April 21, 2019.
“Almo employees are the backbone of our company so we focus on ensuring that everyone who works here has what they need to succeed, from an upbeat working environment to continued skills training to a comprehensive benefits package,” said Warren Chaiken, president and CEO, Almo Corporation. “It is with abundant enthusiasm that we accept the prestigious 2019 Top Workplaces award as we take a great deal of pride in our business, culture and environment — and the survey results show that our employees share this same sense of pride.”
According to Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage, the employee research and consulting firm partnering with The Philadelphia Inquirer to determine the 2019 Top Workplaces, “Becoming a Top Workplace isn’t something organizations can buy. It’s an achievement that organizations have to work for.”
Claffey explained that survey results for the Philadelphia area’s Top Workplaces are based solely on employee survey feedback. Last fall, 1,488 public, private, nonprofit and governmental employers in the region were invited to take part in the employee survey. The survey gathers responses on 24 factors covering seven areas that measure how well employees are working together toward a common cause. Areas include:
- Alignment: Where the company is headed, its values
- Effectiveness: Doing things well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
- Connection: Employees feel appreciated and that their work is meaningful
- My Manager: Their manager cares about concerns and helps them learn and grow
- Employee Engagement: Motivation, retention and referral
- Leader: Confidence in company leadership
- The Basics: Pay, benefits, flexibility, training and expectations
